Abel D'Silva Obituary

Abel B. D’Silva, 87, of Sweet Pea Drive, Cranston, died at Steere House on March 19, 2026. He was the loving companion of Cynthia M. Grossi of Cranston.

Born in Bombay, India, son of the late Salvador and Teresa (Fernandes) he lived at Kingston, RI then Riverside, RI before moving to Cranston.

He emigrated to the US in 1966 after his post-graduation from Bombay University and completed his Master’s Degree at URI, Kingston.

He retired in 1999 as Manager of Data Operations at the Dept. of Mental Health, Retardation, & Hospitals (MHRH). His prior employment was at the Academic Computer Center at URI, Butler Hospital in Providence, and Rhode Island Hospital. He was part-time instructor at the URI College of Continuing Education until 1992, as well as the Community College of RI. He enjoyed traveling, sports, and ballroom dancing, and attending lectures.

He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Church.

He leaves behind in India several nieces and nephews, as well as a nephew in Canada and a niece in London.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 24, 5pm until 7PM at the “WOODLAWN” Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave., Cranston. His funeral will begin at the "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home, at 8:45am on Wednesday, March 25 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Apostles Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Rd, Cranston. Entombment will take place in Our Risen Christ Mausoleum at St. Ann Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations are greatly appreciated to the “Teens on a Mission Project”, c/o Holy Apostles Church, Pippin Orchard Rd., Cranston, RI 02921. Teens and young adults from Holy Apostles Church will travel this year for the 17th time to care for and support the disabled children who live at the Blessed Assurance Orphanage in Jamaica.
